Tracy Chapman Fast Car (Boyce Avenue feat. Kina Grannis acoustic cover)

Video

Here is a fantastic cover of a phenomenal song. Boyce Avenue consists of three brothers and they have teamed up with fellow YouTube artist, Kina Grannis, and have done their own take of the song Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. Having two people sing it gives it a different meaning and they completely make this song their own. Also, they use simple yet beautiful harmonies, not to mention the lovely tones of both singers. And the shaker actually adds quite a bit to the song. Love the arrangement. That’s the beauty of any artist; it’s always refreshing to see different versions of the song and shows their creative side.

Obviously, nothing can beat Tracy Chapman singing this song, but I believe that they come close.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood!

It’s a Saturday afternoon in early April, the sun is shining, and we’re getting ready to move into our new studio next week! As usual, there’s been music coming from our humble little studio with students coming in for their lessons, both piano and vocal. What a great way to spend the day. We’ll miss this studio that has been our home for quite some time, not to mention the tea shop being in the same building, but change is happening for the better. And we can’t wait for you to see it.

Now that the last lesson of the day is finished, I sit here singing along to Boyce Avenue while doing work. And I imagine a life without music, and I shudder. Can you imagine living without it? There is something special that happens whenever you hear a song you like, and it connects to you. The sounds of the instruments, the singers, or simply the beat, work together to create something beautiful and lovely. There is a void that only music can fill, and not having it sounds dreadful to me.

I leave you with a quote from one of my favourite movies, August Rush (which you should really watch if you haven’t already). “You know what music is? God’s little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe, a harmonic connection between all living beings, every where, even the stars.”

Go out and enjoy the day. Sing. Play. Practice. Listen.

Find us at our new location at 588 Richmond Street West, five minutes away from our old studio.

Signing off,

Maria
